| Here you will find a variety of information about our company and insight as to what working at sea is all about.
United Ocean Services Company operates a fleet of large oceangoing tug/barge units and bulkers. It is the largest US flag coastwise dry bulk carrier. What this means to our seagoing team member is that we are a strong, stable, and diverse company. We have been around for over four decades and plan to be around for many more.
Another aspect of our operation is the diversity of our trade runs. Our vessels operate both domestically and internationally. Our international voyages have taken us to Africa, Chile, China, Germany, Korea, Peru, Poland, Russia and Sri Lanka, to name a few, and many ports in the Caribbean, and Central and South America.
Our primary domestic trade routes are in the Gulf of Mexico, between Florida, Louisiana and Texas. We also make several voyages to the east, and occasionally the west coasts of the United States. The dry bulk products we transport generally consist of coal, phosphate, pet coke, and agricultural products. We operate a fleet of eleven vessels consisting of eight tug and barge combinations and three ships. Our tug/barge combinations include Artubar, Bludworth and other connecting systems.
Seagoing team members work a 180-day schedule; one day off for each day worked. The average work rotations on our domestic trade vessels are generally 30-30 days onboard before rotating off. The vessels that trade internationally and those making longer domestic runs have longer work rotations, often two to three months and occasionally longer. In these instances however, your time off is extended so at the end of the year, you will have worked roughly the same number of days as every other seagoing team member.
United Ocean Services provides safety shoes and personal protective equipment (PPE) to all team members at no cost. |
